"You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you. This is not the worst thing that can happen." --Tyler Durden, Fight Club

"What Does Love Mean?" by Meleny

posted Tuesday, 1 January 2008

I asked Meleny to guest blog a post about the topic of love.

What Does Love Mean?

It’s not that Love is indefinable, but I haven’t found a good textual definition that can suit me. We define love very simple and linear, which it isn’t. We define it as a strong affection that drives us to something. In actuality, there are numerous definitions of Love, to satisfy a simple definition, but nothing that truly touches the benevolence. Love is arduous to define because it amasses countless branches of definitions. Its complexity is similar to a universe seen from an omniscient point of view. However, what text won’t provide, my own personal truth and experiences can. So listen to a tale that is written directly from a realm of love, from which the creature that inhabits it has allowed love to be a ruling trait. I live by the theory “Live, Laugh, LOVE and Learn” and the more I think of it, all four L’s are one and all.

Every generation has expressed and felt it. It’s one of the most consistent emotions since the beginning. Looking back at the most primitive of our kind, you will see the simple acts that love produced, and the effects of love on one another. Love is even amongst the most mysterious of creatures. In relativity to humans, love is a ruling body amongst the eternal and immortals…that we cannot see. God is love. Connectively, we can’t place a name on god nor place textual single definitions on love. In Ancient Egypt, the Sun God Ra must never have his name spoken because of the power it holds. Secrecy, power and divinity are all traits of a historical emotion that’s present in all. Like Ra, love is a component of a divine entity. Our God’s would all agree that God is love and love is god, and to feel both, we must come to a place of realization that enables empowerment. Hence, if god is love, then they seat in our hearts and that’s one of the reasons why we’re divine creatures. There is no such thing as human, without love.

Our earliest and most notorious of brethrens have felt it. When Dante Alighieri wrote the Divine Comedy, he felt love deeply in his heart. His Pilgrim, by poetic license, scorned and punished those who overlooked love and other righteousness. Later, his Pilgrim examined those who were able to gain another chance, and finally his Pilgrim became one with love, as he followed his heart and a symbolic incorporeal guide to a place where love is at its most potent. In reality, Dante’s works of literature were heavily based on love…for one single creature. To him, the creature symbolized so much more than just flesh and the love that she radiated and that he manifested, created that righteous ruling body of self-government.

On the subject of Government, show me a man who was more in love with his country than George Washington. Will there ever be another president with so much sincere love for his country? His moniker as father of our country has a meaning. It wasn’t because he was a Politico, but because he was a man, a simple man who preferred his quiet farm over fame and fortune. His leadership had flaws like every other, but his acceptance and repentance as a true man, showed his love. His defense with his own life in line, showed his love for his country. In a time where our Politico’s resemble ants and hypocritical suits, we must ask ourselves, who truly loves our country? I prefer the leader who fights his own battles aside with his men, than the leader who fights hard just to get a $500,000+ annual salary.

Another interesting person who allowed his ruling body of Government to be Love was Albert Einstein. Seldom mentioned, he spent a great amount of time, with his beloved “Dolly.” Before the Solvay Conference of 1927 and before his hair had gone gray, his time was dually spent in science as well as writing love letters to his lover. His claim was also that before her, he was nothing. Love had found a deep rooted seat in his life, in its most corporeal of forms.
The divine lords would agree that in order to connect with god, we must look within and find love. Throughout my life, I’ve heard “To love others, you have to love yourself.” Love is contagious and when one has achieved love, the only goal left is to share the happiness and joy.

As I grew up, I use to think that I was cursed with a heart. I grew up in a home where love was seldom and dysfunction was at its finest. I knew I was different because of the triple sized heart I had compared to theirs. They also had that heart, but theirs had been distorted, later in life to be resurrected. Children feel love very simply, with attachments and meaningless joy. A child will seek to fulfill deeds and actions that will generate supreme happiness. Unlike adults, children don’t have to seek far to accomplish this goal. Their love is represented with what they can reach. Women feel love more religiously and express it greatly. The love that a mother has for a child can possibly be one of the most beautiful aspects of life that humankind will ever know. Men have a more unique form of love with each other. Men express love with respect, pride and loyalty. The love amongst males is a good example of how love can be expressed without being heard.

Love can’t be excluded, when comprising a human. Water, food, clothing and shelter are essentials to live a healthy and peaceful life and love is the ruling body that allows us to actually be humans. We will always be humans, as a physical, but without love, we can never truly be…human.

Love also has a dangerous side. Love should be tempered with knowledge because its addictive nature can spurn our downfall. Knowledge is another key element to life. Too often, without the correct self knowledge, we allow love to become a tyrannical self government. Being humble, sincere and living a life with little regrets, allows love to be pure. The only thing greater than love, is pure love.

Marcus Aurelius stated that love can be an emotion than allows us to forgive our greatest foes. I myself have been in a situation where my enemies, close and familiar as they were, were once hell bent on destroying my every mental fiber. Once the war shifted to my side, the greatest revenge I had was allowing forgiveness to be possible and to love them dearly as they once loved me. To embrace and comfort them and allow a new future and destiny to be made, showed that love is a powerful substance in life. By embodying love; I had become a vessel of pure love. I was able to hold and nurture them into the creatures they are now. Love had pierced through the abyss that was their heart and showed them a new path that they had once forgotten. It was not only my own doing, but their cooperation as well. We all hold the Kingdom of Heaven, Hell and Knowledge in our anatomy and love is part of those kingdoms.

Very recently, I have seen with my own eyes, the love that humans inhabit. The seasons of joy enables people to reconnect with that love and remember that they are more than just drone. No doubt, selflessness is an act of love. What is evident about love is that like happiness, when you have it, you want to give. Giving reaps its own benefits

To me, Love means living, laughing, loving and learning. They are all and one. Love is humans, we are love. Love is life. Love is god. But most importantly, loves means Happiness.
