Quote of the Day

"You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you. This is not the worst thing that can happen." --Tyler Durden, Fight Club

These Past Few Days

posted Friday, 9 February 2007

I've been sick for the past few days.

I'm not looking for sympathy, but just in case you insist on throwing some pity my way, the comments section is at the bottom of this post.

The New York Times most-read internet article for the month of January is called "Unhappy Meals."  It's about food, nutrition, and nutritionism in America today.  It's not just informative, but so well-written.  It's also about 12 pages long, so if you're in the mood, give it a read.  You won't regret it.

Anna Nicole Smith died.  I was sad to hear that.  The media wasn't.  Before an investigation has gotten underway, before her autopsy has been performed, I already know from watching the news that Anna's attorney, and possible father of her child, Howard K. Stern, may have had something to do with her death.  The other guy claiming to be the father of her child might have had something to do with it too, and Anna may have "had a price on her head."  But, just to be safe, the reporters added after making everyone think she was murdered, that it's "all speculation."  Nice save.  Someone should sue their asses.  Remember when the news just reported news?  I'm just suggesting that before they go all tabloid on us, they should wait for the police, detectives, medical specialists, etc. to do their jobs, and then they could just report the findings.  But, MSNBC, FOX, and CNN has managed to create a story where there is no story yet.  I'm not surprised, just annoyed.

Watched Jesus Camp and Strangers with Candy (movie).  It's the second time I watched Jesus Camp, and it's just as scary (and heartbreaking) the second time.  Even Evangelists who watch it will probably think, "Maybe we're going about this the wrong way."  Then again, probably not.  It's up for an Oscar and I hope it wins.  I recommend this because it will scare the hell out of you (pun intended).  I watched Strangers with Candy right after Jesus Camp and felt so much better.  It was basically just a longer episode of the original series.  I think what I like so much about the series and the movie is that it looks like the cast is really having a good time.  I hope they come out with a sequel.

My upstairs neighbor reminds me of Jerri Blank.  Oops, did I just say that out loud?  No, I typed it.  Okay.  I'm just saying she looks like her and they have some of the same mannerisms, and if smoking pot could be a career choice she'd be a professional.

Here's a link to a post I did on Strangers with Candy back in February 2006 (hey, my blog is a year old now!) with lots of quotes from the series.
