Quote of the Day

"You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you. This is not the worst thing that can happen." --Tyler Durden, Fight Club

Sex & Marriage with Robots

posted Monday, 22 October 2007

The MSNBC and Fox News websites both have this same article posted.

Do they have ANY reporters or journalists working for them?  Anyway, it's titled, Sex and Marriage with Robots? It Could Happen.  I know this is old news and a lot of people have blogged about it already.  But, I just want to know, do people really want to have sex with robots and marry them?  Because, what would Jesus do?  There's nothing in the bible that says it's against the rules.  Then again, I think we can assume that it will be a male person/female robot relationship (and vice-versa), not a male person/male robot because that would be so gay.  And a sin.

So gay people can't marry, but it's okay if a human and mechanical object say, "I do"?  I guess so because I have yet to see any objections from the morality police, like Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh, on this.  I think Bill would marry a robot.  He seems like that kind of guy.  You know, all creepy and icky, and he'd probably shower with it while washing it with a falafel (after sexually harassing it first).  As for Rush, he just better hope they make one sturdy enough to hold all that weight or else let the robot get on top.

David Levy at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands "predicts Massachusetts will be the first jurisdiction to legalize human-robot marriage. 'Massachusetts is more liberal than most other jurisdictions in the United States and has been at the forefront of same-sex marriage,' Levy said."

Way to slam Massachusetts!  I mean, if Massachusetts did something as crazy as legalizing gay marriage, why wouldn't they legalize robot marriage?  Although, I don't agree that it will happen in America first.  I think the Japanese will do it first, or maybe Canada.

On the MSNBC poll, 19% said it would be inevitable that I would someday have the right to marry Data from Star Trek (not the exact words used in poll).  Yeah, that's right, I saw that episode when that girl screws him after she finds out he's programmed to be really good in bed.  And technically, Data isn't a robot.  He's an android.  I don't know what the difference is, but I just know there is one.  The point is that happened on Stardate: 41209.2 (I looked it up) and Levy is talking about this happening before 2050.  Let's face it.  Data is not hot and Star Trek had a longer period of time to work on that.  All I'm saying is that the robots in 2050 probably won't be that cute.

"Levy is currently writing a paper on the ethical treatment of robots. When it comes to sex and love with robots, "the ethical issues on how to treat them are something we'll have to consider very seriously, and they're very complicated issues," Levy said."

I think someone needs to take Levy's Artificial Intelligence: AI DVD away from him.  He's watched that movie too many times.

Sexy!

Note: I put a Wikipedia link in this post even though I decided never to link to the site again.  Long story short: It started when I disagreed with an administrator about a source he used and it ended with me getting banned.  I only linked to it because it's the only place where someone actually sat down and wrote a detailed entry about a Star Trek episode.
