Jeremy Scott, a fashion designer from Missouri or Kansas (depending on the source) began making a name for himself in 2002, when he did something most designers shy away from these days. He created some original pieces.
While other designers are content with copying off each other and churning out fashions inspired from decades past (vintage and retro anyone?), Scott went in a different direction. He designed clothes with a sense of humor. His outfits are crazy, fun, and inspired by pop culture. These are definitely not clothes ordinary people would wear, but they are fun to look at.
Descriptions of his Fashion Shows:
Spring/Summer 2002 - Inspired by Vanna White & 80's game shows.
Fall/Winter 2002 - Featured Judy Jetson coats, and dresses inspired by New York City buildings (meaning they even looked like buildings)
Spring/Summer 2003 - An eclectic mixture of Los Angeles glam, science fiction, and Venus (the planet AND the goddess).
Fall/Winter 2003 - Inspired by Hollywood, he staged a mock red carpet movie premiere and showed a short soap opera film to present pieces in his line. Hollywood style usually brings to mind glamorous evening gowns, but Scott used Hollywood symbols for his designs; such as a jacket with gold Oscars printed on the sleeves, a gold Hollywood walk-of-fame star handbag, and a white and black gown with the words bombshell vertically spelled out.

Fall 2004 - "Scott brought out his thug-line filled with black and white hooded capes, bandana print pants, and tiny chain bikini’s. The models were tattooed with words such as Kill and Die, and the collection had many images of guns, swords, and bullets." --ElitesTV.com. He also had a group of cheerleaders dance around in his athletic line and then finish with a cheer.
Fall 2005 - "His spring collection is based on the life and times of King Tut, and I think it's fair to say this is the animated version. With details of ancient egyptian history mixed with symbols of urban culture - ala South Central LA. -- ZooZoom.com
Fall 2006 - Inspired by fast food, desserts, and candy.

Jeremy Scott is only given a nod by most fashionistas (you know, the IMPORTANT fashion people). Critics say his clothes aren't wearable, but that's not true. Bjork, and maybe Lil' Kim, would wear them. Okay, so maybe they aren't practical, but so what? People need to lighten up and let the guy have some fun.
Although, let's be honest. No one would wear this stuff (at least no one I know). Still, the idea of the rebel fashion designer appeals to me. Scott is like a fashion anarchist. He breaks the rules and I'm very pro-rules breaking.
It kind of sucks that there are people who decide each season the rules for what the rest of us are supposed to wear. From the length of our hemlines to which colors and fabrics, we are conditioned to conform to the seasonal set standards of dress...or else risk looking like a fashion "don't".
One one hand, I hate conformity; and on the other, there's no way I would walk out of my home dressed like a hamburger and french fries. People would point and laugh. I know I would point and laugh if I saw someone dressed like that. Also, no one would want to be seen walking with someone dressed like that, because it would make you an accessory (haha...pun intended!) to this fashion crime. In every society in the world, there are dress standards and that's not a bad thing. Clothes tell you a lot about a person: personality, social status, occupation, culture, religion, etc. So some degree of fashion, conformity, and standards are necessary.
My solution to this serious "conform or not conform" fashion dilemma is...to let the government handle it. No, I'm kidding! Actually, I just go for personal style. At my age (37), the most important factor is now comfort and practicality, but that's because I'm getting old. It's just a matter of time before I trade in my jeans for muumuus. But, fo now I like inexpensive basics mixed with interesting accessories (I'll splurge on those). Basically, all I want is to fit in, but not look like everyone else.
But anyway....back to Jeremy Scott. I think every once in awhile we need a little fashion shock like this. If anything, it reminds us that it's not so bad to be a little crazy and have some fun, even if you wouldn't be caught dead in any of these outfits.
