I have some more photos to share of my Memphis vacation, but first I want to say...Happy Birthday to Catty!
We checked out Sun Studio while we were there. It's a guided tour that lasts about 30 minutes and mainly focuses on Elvis. It was more of a learning experience than a fun experience, but I didn't mind. It was cool being in the room where some of the first rock 'n' roll songs were recorded. I was surprised at the number of modern musicians (some big names too) who still go there to visit and record. Standing in Sam Philip's office and the studio was like taking a trip back through time. Everything, from Sam's desk to the microphones and pianos, are still there since Elvis recorded his first song. They even have an 'X' marked on the floor where Elvis stood when he recorded (yeah, that was a little corny, but oh well).
Next door is a 50's-style soda shop where we hopped up on stools, ordered root beer floats, and talked to Lisa who worked behind the counter. She's been there for 20 years and has seen a lot of famous people come and go. There were about ten of us there listening to her talk about her experiences. If you ever go, stop in and say hi to her and order a float.
