I saw this building at the end of an alley and had to get a photo of it.
The man in the pic is Big Al. While I was getting the camera ready, he walked up to me and asked me why I wanted a picture of this old hole in the wall, and I told him I liked the paintings on it. I thought it was deserted at first, but this part of Memphis has lots of businesses that look deserted. Some are literally just shacks with OPEN signs in the windows.
I asked Big Al to pose in front of the bar. He asked me if he should pose any particular way, and I told him to just do whatever he wanted. So he starting dancing and singing a B.B. King song, and for a moment I was stunned because Big Al can truly sing! Afterwards, he asked for a hug. I gave him a big hug and he kissed me on the cheek and wished me a happy 4th of July. Then, he turned and walked away, singing his B.B. tune.
I think the reason I like this photo so much is because it captures another part of Memphis, the one you don't see in tourist attraction brochures.
