A post about human nature and karma.
I've done both good and bad deeds. Here are some of my evil deeds first:
Prank called a prayer hotline and told them I was possessed, then asked for an exorcism. She took me seriously and when she asked why I thought I was possessed, I said because my head was spinning around and I was spitting pea soup. Then she hung up on me. Guess I won't be getting that free prayer cloth.
Laughed really hard when Paris Hilton got killed in House of Wax.
In college, once used "death of a relative" as an excuse for not turning in an assignment on time.
In college, once used "My mom has cancer" as an excuse for not turning in an assignment on time (different class). I did have a good reason for not turning in the assignments, but it wouldn't have been a good enough reason for my professors. I had to pull out the heavy artillery.
Once pretended to be my own sister when a bill collector called and I said I died in a car accident. When she pressed for more details, I said, "Sorry but I can't give out any personal information." Is that illegal? So far, no one has called back and said, "I don't believe you're really dead."
Put an ex-boyfriend's email address in a gay men's newsgroup with "looking to experiment" under it.
Wrote an entry on Urban Dictionary about Pittsburgh that was "denied approval" by administrators. I guess I should have left out the word "shithole."
My username on the Pizza Hut Delivery website is PizzaWhore. So now when the delivery man comes to the door or we have to pick up a pizza, someone HAS to say out loud, "Delivery for...PizzaWhore??" I'm telling you, that never gets old. It's funny every single time.
Anytime I see a sign at a zoo, aquarium, or pet store that says "please don't tap on glass," I get temporary dyslexia because to me that sign says, "tap on glass because something will happen if you do." Once I got yelled at for it at the Baltimore Aquarium, but I think everyone else there wanted to see the octopus shoot inky stuff out too.
Pushed open a fire exit door and made the the alarm go off, then acted like I did it by accident. I would never go as far as pulling a fire alarm, but exit doors are fair game.
Future evil deed I'm planning: For this year's War on Christmas, I'm going to Wal-Mart and saying Happy Hanukkah to all the employees. And if anyone says it back I'm gonna respond with "I'm not Jewish."
Okay, so none of those things, apart from the excuses I gave to my professors, was really that bad. No one got hurt, although some people did get pissed. I can be mischievous at times. Plus, I'm easily amused. But I have done things in my life that were wrong or hurtful to other people (I'm not listing any of those). We all have, whether it's intentional or accidental.
Remember that movie "Pay it Forward"? When I watched it I thought, "Wow, what a great idea. Wouldn't it be great if everyone did that?" But, I have my own way of doing things. Each day I try to do at least one good deed. It doesn't matter how big or small it is. It could be as simple as picking up a piece of litter and throwing it away or letting it slide when someone cuts me off in traffic instead of resorting to road rage, to paying for someone's gas when he gets to the register and freaks out when he realizes he forgot his wallet. Every little thing counts, and although I've done my share of racking up bad karma points, I've racked up good ones too (and hopefully it cancels out the bad points).
Good deeds are easy to do. It makes you feel good about yourself and others, and best of all you make the world just a tiny bit better.
Since it's Thanksgiving, I want to say thanks to all my blogger friends for the good deeds they've done for me. Whether it's a kind comment, advice, or offering a shoulder to cry on if needed, you've had a positive affect on my life at one time or another (even if we've never met in person). I don't have to mention names here, you know who you are.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
