Quote of the Day

"You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you. He never wanted you. In all probability, he hates you. This is not the worst thing that can happen." --Tyler Durden, Fight Club

About the word "Fuck"

posted Saturday, 20 May 2006

Sometimes there's just no other way to express the way you really feel.

I read that 35% of people, in a recent Ipsos Poll, said they have never used the F-word.  Although, I think 95% of people believe 35% of people lied on that Ipsos Poll.

Here are two articles about it:  "Americans see profanity getting worse, poll finds" and "Thinking Specifically about the F-Word..."

There are no limits to the way the word can be used.  Personally, I like to use it to emphasize a point.  Kinda like Dick Cheney did when he told Sen. Patrick Leahy to fuck off, which was much more effective than saying, "I disagree with you, Senator Leahy."  Here's a parody on the exchange between Cheney and Leahy brought to you by those crazy people over at Chickenhead.com and their subsite Whitehouse.org:

Transcript of Long-Overdue Exchange Between Vice President Dick "Christian Values Role Model" Cheney and Rage-Consumed Liberal Senator Patrick Leahy.

The reason the word is so great in the first place is because it's considered a taboo word, which is why people get a certain satisfaction out of using it.  I also think it's stupid that the FCC freaks out over a bad word, but has no problem showing violence on TV.  Which is worse: Watching a person shoot someone or hearing them say "fuck you."  Hmmm...I don't know.  That's a tough one.  It does show you where our priorities lie in this country.  And here's a message to the FCC: When you bleep out a word, we can still tell what they're saying (but I think the FCC knows that anyway).  To others who get offended by the word, from what I can tell no one has ever been traumatized from hearing it, so lighten up.
